In today’s day and age, cities are made by its people and its history. Built within the precincts of Anyangsa Temple, which Anyang was named after, Anyang Museum represents the city’s historical identity. the museum shows permanent exhibits divided into four themes-The Beginning of Life(Prehistory & Three kingdom Period), The Origin of Anyang(Unified Silla&Goreo Dynasties), Cultural Heritage(Joseon Dynasty), and The City’s Growth(modern&present age)-that allow visitors to experience, see, and feel Anyang’s history and cultural heritage. On the roof one can find The Terrace Restaurant&Cafe, where visitors can rest while enjoying a spectacular view of Mt. Gwanak.
Having studied under the world-famous architect Le Corbusier, Chungup Kim(1922-88) came to represent the 1st generation of modern Korean architecture. Kimchungup Architecture Museum used to be a factory for the Yuyu Industrial Company, designed by Kim in 1959. Unique structures that act as pillars are exposed on the building’s exterior to maximize interior space. Permanent displays include sketches, floor plans, and models by Kim. Special exhibitions and do-it-yourself training programs are also available.
